Before proceeding any further, please ask yourself, “If I were to die today, do I know FOR SURE that I would go to heaven?” If your answer is anything other than a definite “Yes, I KNOW FOR SURE!” then you NEED to be saved. We are not asking if you are a church member or if you are a good person, but are you certain of your eternal destiny? In light of the verses seen in this chapter, if you are not certain of going to heaven one day, we would encourage you to bow your head right where you are sitting and pray something like the following:
“Lord, I know that I am a sinner and that I deserve to go to hell; I ask you now to forgive me of my sin and to save my soul; I believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross and rose again from the dead to pay for my sins. I ask you now to be my Saviour. Amen. ”
Romans 10:9 – 10 – “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus , and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved ….For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved .”
We trust that if you have never accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour or were unsure of whether or not you were actually saved, that you have just prayed the preceding prayer and made sure! Whether or not you have been saved five minutes or five years, the salvation of the soul takes place at some particular moment in time. Jesus spoke of the need to be born again and just as every person has a physical birthday that occurred on a certain day at a certain minute, so does every spiritual birth. Everyone who has ever been saved, has repented of their sins and exercised their faith in Jesus Christ at a fixed point in time. This is shown in the parallel between the physical birth and the spiritual birth of John 3:3-8. This is also shown by the fact that the Bible repeatedly states that at the moment a person believes, they IMMEDIATELY receive eternal life and pass from death to life.
