1) Prior to Jesus’ death, the Spirit “dwelled with” men
2) After this point, He would be “in” men
3) Whatever form this reception took, it would be permanent
This was a new teaching! No one in the Old Testament was guaranteed this permanent
indwelling of the Spirit. In I Samuel 16:14 the Holy Spirit departed from Saul. In the verse below, King
David was clearly concerned about losing the Spirit. According to Jesus, such a loss would have been an
impossibility for his disciples.
